SISTUHS, Incoporated was originally
founded as S.I.S.T.U.H.S. in 1992. S.I.S.T.U.H.S. was an acronym
that was combined from the words Strength, Initiative,
Spirituality, Tenacity, Unity, Health and Substance.
S.I.S.T.U.H.S. officially became SISTUHS, Incorporated
in 2001.
Founders:
Akiba Jackson and Germaine Smith-Baugh.
National Founding Date:
December 3, 1992.
Founding Chapter:
Florida State University, located in Tallahassee, Florida.
The Objectives of SISTUHS,
Incorporated are:
- Promote spiritual growth.
- Promote personal growth
and develop knowledge of thyself.
- Promote a positive image
of African-American women and anything that positively enhances
the survival and well being of African-American women.
- Seek guidance from Elder
African-American women.
- Foster an environment
amongst ourselves that is conducive to learning about the
history, and the role African-American women have played
and continue to play in developing this and other nations.
- Develop local leadership
to respond to the community's needs, particularly those
of African-American women.
- Provide moral and educational
guidance to other young African-American women in the community.
- Provide unity among People
of Color.
- Provide opportunities
to educate ourselves as well as the community on political
issues that affect the well being of African-American women.
- Provide encouragement
and support to African-American men.

Symbol:
The Primary Symbol for SISTUHS, Inc. is the ancient Egyptian
Ankh. It was first created by the Africans in Ancient Egypt.
Often referred to as the "key of life," the Ankh is
a symbol of both physical and eternal life. The ankh is known
as the original cross. |
